Tips On Pool Maintenance

How To Use Chemicals Safely

Always read the labels carefully first before using any chemical. They usually give important guidelines on the chemical’s possible effects if contamination happens. Use gloves, eyewear, and footwear that are appropriate in dealing with chemicals to protect yourself.

Stay in a well-ventilated, open area, or room to avoid suffocating from the strong smell of the chemical. Have a separate measuring tool for each of the chemicals and do not contaminate other containers which will result in a hazardous chemical reaction.

Avoid moisture in the chemicals like water or coffee as well as putting measuring cups or scoop into the container. As much as possible, use water to dilute the chemical first before pouring it into the water. However, if the instruction tells you not to do so, then you may not.

You should avoid mixing two chemicals in one container. Don’t put back used chemicals, but dispose of them responsibly. Never smoke or put fire close to the chemicals to prevent hazardous situations.

The Pool Maintenance Procedure

The process of maintaining a swimming pool’s clean and safe condition is something that our experts have mastered over the years. What helped us to be the best in what we are including the steps we take to make sure that everything has been checked and properly performed.

Skimming

This is a part of our professional procedure wherein we remove the dead leaves and debris floating in the pool water. It only takes a few minutes to finish this step.

Brushing And Scrubbing

With the help of the appropriate type of brush is what makes this step successful. For some type of pool, it is advisable to use a brush with both stainless steel and nylon bristles, while for others it is the nylon brush only that works best.

You should be careful not to damage the surface of your pool when you scrub or brush the walls, floors, and other parts of it.

Vacuuming

Right after brushing, we must make sure that no residue will be left in the water so that the water will not be contaminated again. Vacuuming your pool water removes the algae on areas that are hard to reach and which were not scrubbed using the brush.

The Filtration System

If the human body has a heart and lungs working together for a person’s breathing, a swimming pool also has those important parts to perform certain roles such as maintaining its crystal clear water.

The pool’s filtration system is what does all that. Aside from that, four different parts make up the filtration system.

Motor

The motor is responsible for pushing the impellers to keep on making the water flow into the drains and the skimmers.

Water Pump

This serves as the heart of your pool. This is the part that pumps the water coming from the filter and then to the pool again. Those two are the major components of the filtration system. If this part does not work well, all the other parts will not properly function.

Main Drains

These are parts of a swimming pool that are located at the bottom which is meant to strain the large debris and dead leaves from entering the filters of the pool. Expert pool builders require at least two main drains for better filtration.

Filter

The porous materials are used to clean the water. These are the parts of the pool that filter the smallest particles in the water. At present, there are already three famous types of pool filters which you can choose from according to your need and wants.

Types Of Filters

Cartridge filter

Pool owners who want a filter that is low in maintenance, inexpensive, but still efficient in fulfilling its job. A cartridge filter can filter as small as 0.10 microns of particles and debris. You can clean this type of filter for up to 30 minutes only if there is no other observable problem in the filter.

You’ll know that it is time to clean your filter if the pressure gauge shows 8 to 12 psi. A cartridge filter can be cleaned through soaking it with soft dish detergent or with a pressurized hose. It must be cleaned once every three months.

Sand filter

This is the most popular filter that pool owners prefer. It comes in a round shape that is covered with fiberglass or plastic. The sand filter is capable of catching small debris of 0.30 microns size. It is useful and inexpensive.

The right process to clean this kind of filter is through regular backwashing which is the reversing of water flow using a pressurized hose. This type of filter has to be replaced after 5 to 7 years.

Diatomaceous Earth Filter

Simply called DE is a filter that has powder covering the grids inside. You may consider this as the most effective type but it is also the most expensive. As small as 0.03 microns can be filtered by this type which is 70% better than that of a cartridge filter.

This should be backwashed a few times every year. But, every time you backwash it, a new DE filter must be added so you will need more supply.
